Premium Ceramic Coating Cloths
FAQ's: Ceramic Coating Cloths

A ceramic coating cloth is used during the levelling stage of ceramic coating application. After the coating is applied to the surface and has been left for the appropriate amount of time to bond to the paint, the cloth is used to gently remove excess product and level the coating so it cures evenly. Levelling is an important step because ceramic coatings begin to cure quickly. If excess coating is left behind, it can create darker patches or streaks known as high spots. A proper ceramic coating cloth helps lift excess coating cleanly into the fibres without smearing it across the paint, allowing you to achieve a clear and uniform finish.

A good ceramic coating cloth is designed to level coatings cleanly without leaving lint or smearing product across the surface. Some key characteristics to look for include:
- Low lint fibres to prevent fibres being left in the coating.
- Consistent weave structure that levels coatings evenly.
- Safe edge construction to reduce the risk of marking delicate surfaces.
-
In most cases, a Ceramic Coating Cloth should not be reused for paintwork after coating application. Ceramic coatings begin curing inside the fibres of the cloth very quickly. Once this happens, the fibres can stiffen and lose their softness, making the cloth unsafe for delicate surfaces. If the coating has cured in the fibres, washing the cloth will not fully restore its original performance.

You can use a regular microfibre cloth, but a dedicated ceramic coating cloth is usually the safer option when levelling or removing coatings. Ceramic coatings behave differently to products like waxes or sealants. During the levelling stage, the cloth needs to remove excess coating cleanly without spreading it across the surface. A regular microfibre may work, but it can sometimes smear product, leave lint or become saturated more quickly. Using a purpose built ceramic coating cloth helps achieve a more consistent finish.
